dating: second quarter of the 17th Century
provenance: Northern Italy, Burgonet in one piece with medium-high comb and twisted border, sharpened brim with Nuremberg mark, restored cheek-piece. Gorget with front and back plate with five-plated pauldrons. Heavy, ribbed breast-plate, riveted neck-line and gussets with finely evident, twisted border, three plates of loin-guard; back-plate with restore in the center, provided with culet plate. Fine, seven-plated tassets with recessed band and twisted border, the last one with embossed monogram 'VA', probably for Vittorio Amedeo I of Savoy. Restored leather strings, small restores and defects. Mannequin and garments are not included. Armours of this type were used by the Swiss Guards, corps set up (in 1615-1630 approximately) by Vittorio Amedeo I of Savoy, as a self-defense unit. height as shown circa 185 cm.
