A cuirassier three quarter armour
dating: About 1630
provenance: France
Consisting of a cuirass' helmet, complet bust, culet, knee-cop and brassards (missing thumb at one of the knuckle-shields). Interesting, very heavy helmet consisting of a two halves with low, twisted crests, a rectangular hole at the center. Chanfrin with raisable, sharpened brim with lowered border and twisted edge, a strong nosepiece provided with a big lily engraved with the loop and provided with a wing screw. The lower blade added later, smooth beaver. Two-plate neck-guard and nape-guard. One-plate gorget. Chest ribbed at the center with a small tapul, gusset and neckline raised and twisted, the upper part engraved with two sharpened lines. Smooth back. Brassards complete with handles. Interesting, sixteen-plate knee-cops shaped as a crayfish tail fixes by clasps featuring wing screws. Two culet plates. The armour is uniformly decorated with carved waves featuring dots at the center of each semi-circle. Brass rivets. Remains of the original scabbard are still visible, as well as some coeval leather strings. Other leather strings from a restoration. In good condition, only a very small damage on an elbow-piece. In patina, need polishing.
