Slightly curved, double-edged blade, probably in damask. Green jade grip, chiselled and decorated with green and red, cabochon stones and copper arms with remains of gilding (parts missing); beautiful, copper, fire-gilded scabbard, engraved with floral and geometrical motifs in high-relief on a grained background and decorated with green and red, cabochon stones (one is missing), green jade cap and chape, the cap border decorated in gold.
A painted, porcelain, sphere-shaped pendant, with tassel (definitely added on shogun order).

Red fabric scabbard. Kept in a wooden case, with hollowed internal part to host the kandshar with the pendant.
The lid with text, chiselled in Japanese, indicating the act of donation from the XIII Shogun Tokugawa Iesada to the Commodore Matthew Calbraith Perry in the 1854, to celebrate the Kanagawa Convention, signed by both of them. length with scabbard 40.5 cm.
